Ring Prosthesis

Accession #: 2010026

Description: Prosthesis for total hip replacement. This device was developed because of experience of poor results from the insertion of an Austin Moore prosthesis into patients who has osteoarthritis of the acetabulum. By inserting the Ring acetabular prosthesis so that its cup is located well in the acetabulum while its threaded stem is screwed into bone, 'following the weight -bearing line of the pelvis', no adhesive is necessary. The femoral component is a modified Austin Moore prosthesis. The prosthesis is claimed to achieve a pain free joint in circumstances where other prostheses are considered to be unsuitable.
